When I dropped it once too often I got this replacement. It is certainly very much faster, eg I've given up using Opera Mini and just use Chrome for browsing now, complete with synced bookmarks. Flash content is fine. Avast security does not seem to slow it down. The screen is really good - clear and with a very wide viewing angle. I grabbed the 32Mb SD card from the broken Momo so I have loads of photos and videos available - much better than the closed tablets from Google and Apple which make you buy extra storage from them at ludicrous prices. The wifi is very good - compared with the older Momo8 it seems to filter out weaker signals and roams well between the 2 wifi sources in our house (they have the same SSID and passcode etc but are on different channels). It's very slick at swiping through photo albums (I use Faststone Viewer to batch resize them to 1024 pixels on the long side) and excellent at videos. I downloaded QuickPic for stills and MX Player for videos from the Play store. The only app I've had problems with is WeatherPro HD (keeps saying it's incompatible). For offline use I've got various games (incl. Angry Birds), Sketcher Pro, Magic Doodle and Picasso for drawing plus The Guardian and Pocket, which stores articles offline when you push them at it from Chrome or Google Currents. I've also got quite a few detailed maps stored offline via Orux. I find the Microsoft Maps very good and detailed as long as you grab a fairly small area, eg Venice or central London. Email integration (Gmail) is good too and Evernote syncs notes across my phone and our two computers.So I'm very happy with it mostly. BUT there are some issues. The worst is that the battery depletes quite quickly (3-4 hours mixed use?) and seems to go down rather fast in standby mode too. But then I've got a portable battery pack plus a 2 USB adaptor in the car. But it will not charge from its USB cable (unlike the previous Momo8). That's a really bad design fault, making you dependent on mains power. I'm ordering a USB to 2.5mm barrel adapter to see if that will provide a solution. It comes with a 5V 2A mains charger but charges fine from the Momo8 Bird charger too. That's 1.5A so hopefully a 1A source from our battery pack or car adapter will work too. Another problem is that it does not allow data transfers to the micro SD card when plugged in to our PC so I have to take out the card and use a reader to get anything on or off it. The final issue is that the metal back feels classy but is quite slippery. I have had a Momo tablet before (2.3) but this version is way above on terms of speed and apps it is compatible with. At first wifi wouldn't load, and bluetooth refused to switch on. I switched it off for half an hour for both issues and when I switched it on again all was fine.Bluetooth is very fast. The body is stylish but slippery I've dropped it already and now have a dent in the metal back cover, but it didn't affect the tablet or screen. I've ordered a Momo 8 case with a strap to slip your hand into. Keyboard is much better on this than my previous 7". Web pages can be viewed almost whole compared to only half a page on the smaller version. I have had no crashes so far. Instruction booklet is basic and I only picked it up when I couldn't find how to get back to home screen from some programmes, the icons aren't very clear what they are for, and there is only 1 button the on/off switch. I worked out most of the operating by myself. I have BBC media player which plays the iplayer content, and itv player, which I couldn't get to work on the MOMO9. The Chinese pre-installed programmes are annoying, I can't understand them to know what they are, if they are essential for operating the tablet or not, but I can't seem to delete them! Video works well, and picture gallery also allows editing. I have downloaded office suite and documents work well also. Glad I waited for this version. |
