5.0 out of 5 stars Racing game of the Year!, 26 Oct 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Forza Horizon (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
After playing Forza 2,3 & 4 for 50+ hours each I was really looking forward to Forza Horizon. With this game not being your 'typical' Forza I wasn't sure what to make of it but after receiving it on Tuesday and having played it now for 7 hours I am very impressed. First to start off with the gameplay:

GAMEPLAY: 9.8/10

The handling of the cars are solid and alot better than other titles in the past year e.g. Need for Speed: The Run. The variety of events, from ordinary street racing to racing aeroplanes, provide a gu fun. I am very pleased that it has focused on a large variety of events as previous Forza games have felt repetitive after a few hours. From dirt tracks to ordinary tracks the game is consistent in handling and the overall fun of each type of event. The only thing I can criticise is the limited amount of Customisation you can do to the cars. However, the racing element overshadows this.

GRAPHICS: 9.5/10

From day to night racing the graphics are beautiful with the graphics being amongst the best i've ever seen on a racing game. The dirt getting lifted from the road while you are flying down the road at top speed looks even better than it did on Dirt 3. The background detail e.g. buildings, look just as good as they do on any other modern racer and the cockpit looks fantastic. While you are in cockpit view the environment looks beatiful and it looked that good I almost crashed on my first race taking in the scenery.

SOUND: 10/10

Voice-overs are very clear and the sat nav is nice and easy to hear as it turns the radio down while it is on.
The soundtrack to Forza Horizon is the best I have ever heard on a game, it varies from dance to rock to cater for every kind of player. The soundtrack also includes songs that are currently in the Top 40 chart e.g. Porter Robinson - Language showing just how great a set of songs this game involves.

GAMEPLAY: 9.8
GRAPHICS: 9.5
SOUND: 10.0

OVERALL: 9.7

5.0 out of 5 stars Project Gotham Racing, Burnout and Dirt in a blender..., 28 Oct 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Forza Horizon (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
Some games try to do too much. They try to be too many things at the same time. This is a game which has tried to do many things, but somehow managed to pull it off. This is a seamless blend of simulation and arcade racing.

The cars have a great feeling of weight and the steering is just as realistic as Forza 4 if you turn the assists off. What struck me the most is the handling variations on the road surfaces. The game feels so tight that you can feel the road surface change even between subtle variations of tarmac, to tiles, to dirt tracks.

The audio department impresses in both music choice and engine sounds, the world feels logically laid out with enough fast travel points and things to do in between events. The graphics are great, although perhaps not quite up to Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit if I'm going to nitpick.

Overall, this is an amazing racing game and with some great fun to be had playing the online Playground games, will be one to keep coming back to.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm rubbish at racing games but this game rocks!, 26 Oct 2012

Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Forza Horizon (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
Why did I buy Forza Horizon? I suck at racing games in general and I dont know much about cars. So why?
Well I happened to play the Demo and what sucked me in were the open roads of Colorado. The setting is absolutely beautiful and even though I am progressing through the game on medium settings, without rewinds, the exploration part is equally impressive and has pulled me in. Whats more is I'm really enjoying the racing too. I have a car that I like (I don't just go out and buy everything I like to stick with something and see it through as far as it can go) and I've spent time to learn the tracks and even pick up on some of the NPC's tactics. Whats great is the fact that you can play this game with literally no skill level. You do not have to be great at racing games to get the most from Horizons' gameplay. If you play on low difficulty settings you are rewarded with less swag. While playing the same races on hard or insane levels will strip your car of traction control and you will be changing the gears manually - meaning a tougher time and a lot of skill is required but the pay-off is much more money......a lot more infact.
As the game begins you are a rookie driver looking to make his name at the Horizon festival. The festival itself is a mixture of cars, music and partying. The game world is open from the off but the game eases you into the first few races and guides you to the key-points on the map. The places were you will upgrade existing cars and purchase brand new ones. Also as you progress more and more events will become live on the map - meaning brand new races and bigger payoffs.
Horizons' charms go beyond the beautiful vistas and excellent car controls and a kind of RPG-lite system comes into play. Think of it like Borderlands 2 - the challenges. Everything that you can do in Horizon has a ranking system. Do you like flying past people at 100 MPH and almost licking the paint off their ride? Then the game is going to reward you with experience for that. Like crashing into park benches and knocking fences down? Then its the same you will be rewarded with points that upgrade your rank, getting you noticed more and more by the press and your fellow drivers. This makes it much more satisfying while you drive around with the radio station blasting and searching for a barn that houses a hidden car. That's right there is even a bit of treasure hunting involved here as you are tasked with finding barns that house cars - all for keeps.

I really didnt think that the Forza brand would take on the open roads, but it has. This game is really good and obviously race gamers are going to buy it anyway but, if like me, you arent too sure what to expect....download the demo and you'll probably find yourself making a purchase.

I havent mentioned the multiplay side of things because I'm afraid to play it lol
